The Saltwater tank is the main showpiece of my aquaria collection.  If you would have asked me more than 3 years ago if I would start a saltwater tank, my answer would have been, "No Way!"

After doing a lot of research, both at Local Fish Stores (LFS) as well as on the Internet, I discovered that the costs wouldn't be as bad as I was originally told.  No, it wasn't cheap!  But it wasn't "ultra expensive" either.

I started my first and only saltwater tank in August of 1997.  It's a 38 gallon All-Glass Aquarium, 36" wide tank.  The first residents were, of course, seven Damselfish - 5 Domino Damsels, and 2 Blue Damsels.  All but one Domino died within five days.  This, of course, is normal in a new tank.  This is what is known as "cycling" the tank.  The last Domino was traded in at a LFS, for he was terrorizing the other fish in the tank.  Dominoes are known to be a bit bossy!

Three weeks after starting the tank, I added a Percula Clownfish.  The Percula Clown was THE reason that I wanted to have a salt tank - they are so colorful!  They also have a playful, funny way of swimming - that's probably why they're called Clownfish! Percula Clownfish
