NO (Normal Output) Bulbs are the most common bulbs that you'll find in most LFS (Local Fish Stores). They come standard on most Aquarium hoods that you can buy, and do an adequate job for most tanks. If you're keeping a reef, most reefers will tell you that VHO or MH bulbs are the way to go. They are capable of generating more light into the tank, and at better light frequencies. The key to a successful reef is to mimic the natural reef as best as possible, and MH bulbs generate a bright light very close to natural sunlight. If you have a NO Hood/Bulb setup, you can easily convert it to a VHO setup, simply by changing the ballast and the bulbs. Any hardware store can get you the proper pieces/parts, or call Brian at Reefers - I've dealt with him, and received excellent service. He answered all of my questions, advised me on what to get, as well as what not to get. I highly recommend that you check them out! |
