Brian K. Speck
PC Consultant / Instructor

Microsoft MOUS Certified - Master Level
CCNT - Network+ Certified
CIW CI - Certified Internet Webmaster / Instructor

Brian has had an interest in computers for a long time. From dabblings in BASIC in the early 1980's, to Internetworking and developing full featured web applications, Brian has had his hand in almost all things dealing with computers!

In 1993, he was blessed with a beautiful daughter.   Laura Leigh was the inspiration to work at home, and Brian began to envision a home based business. With the arrival of Jonathan four years later, there was even more inspiration to stay at home!

The Speck's are a very active family.  They are members of the Cleveland Zoological Society, and spend quite a bit of time visiting the Cleveland Zoo & RainForest.  If the Speck's aren't at the Zoo, you may find them bike riding on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath in the Cuyahoga Valley, in the Cleveland MetroParks, or just pedaling around the neighborhood.  Brian and his fiancé Cindy ride a tandem bicycle all over the city, state, and the country! they have logged 2,500 miles in 2004, and 2,300 miles in 2005 on the tandem. The tandem has seen roadways throughout Ohio, and has pedaled down the road in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Ontario, Canada. They also ride in the MS 150 Pedal to the Point Bike Tour every August - a 150 mile ride from Cleveland, Ohio to Sandusky, Ohio and back for Multiple Sclerosis.  Their team, The KeyBank Wolf Pack, raised over $5,000 for MS in 1999, winning a Silver Award!  In 2001, The KeyBank Wolf Pack achieved GOLD for raising over $10,000! But they didn't stop there - The bar was raised in 2003 when Team Wolf Pack won two awards - Largest Team, and a first-ever Platinum Award for being the #1 Fundraiser with over $38,000 turned in! Team Wolf Pack continues to be one of the top teams in the MS ride year after year.

Of course, Laura and Jonathan keep him busy, too!  Laura is a student in Tap, Jazz, Point & Ballet, and also plays Softall during the summer months. Jonathan plays T-Ball, and is an active Cub Scout.   Brian also likes to play bass guitar as an alternate stress-reliever to bicycling!

Brian has had a love for computers for years.   At first, it was just for playing games, but Brian soon realized the power & potential of a well programmed computer system.   He had seen computers in use at work, but 99% of the people using them didn't understand them, or knew how to fully grasp their power.   Just like the "typical office," everyone knew a couple commands vital to their job, and that was it.   Brian began to "dig into" the office's system, and soon discovered more commands!   After successfully executing them, he shared them with his co-workers.   Soon, the workload was much easier to handle!   Upper Management noticed improvements in many areas - all because of a heightened awareness in the computer!

After working in sales & management (retail & inside), Brian began a career in the Auto Business.   He was a successful salesman for a very well known dealership.   Part of the reason for his success was his home PC.   On it, he maintained an extensive database of ALL customers - both sold and unsold.   He published a Quarterly Newsletter with a word processing program, and noticed increases in his personal sales EVERYTIME a newsletter was mass-mailed.   He earned membership into Ford Motor Company's Diplomat Society - which is reserved for the Nation's Top 10% in Customer Satisfaction.   But he wasn't 100% happy.   He soon made the switch to the Service Department, where he searched for a higher sense of accomplishment.

Brian soon moved on to another dealership, looking for the "ultimate" sense of achievement - 100% customer satisfaction.   He became the dealer's Night Service Manager, offering Midnight and weekend service to the Cleveland Area.   He strived for excellence, and motivated his co-workers to do the same.   Again, Brian began "digging into" the dealer's computer system.   He found better ways to find information, and began to suggest to his co-workers to use the computer to its full potential.   He requested several re-writes of the program to further fine tune it.   Soon, the computer was being used for more than just filling orders.   But this wasn't enough....

Brian then began to work out of the house, doing odd computer jobs for friends, former co-workers and neighbors.  He soon realized that he knew more about computers than he was giving himself credit for.  Eventually, business was strong enough to warrant leaving the auto dealership, and Brian was on his own.  However, Brian did miss the interaction with the public that he had while at the dealership.   He soon began to teach software classes for a Training & Consulting Firm in the Cleveland area as a part time contractor.  Brian quickly learned nearly every software package that the Training Firm offered, and learned them at all levels, from Basic to Advanced.  Brian was offered a full time position, and after a few months, he accepted the position.  Brian soon became the Senior Instructor, and was responsible for all aspects of the Training Department, from teaching to writing and revising course materials, software setups, network configurations, and more.  Brian strived to make that Training Center the best it could be, and automated nearly all aspects of the software setups on all training PC's, while still keeping focus on the ultimate accomplishment - a "Perfecta" - that is, having every student in the class rate him as "Excellent" in all areas on a class survey.  Brian did it at Ford Motor Company, and he did it at the Training Center as well!

The position at the Training Center gave Brian invaluable experience.   Experience that can benefit you and your company!  Brian learned the ins and outs of Novell and Microsoft servers, task automation, and Network Management.  He successfully deployed Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98 and Microsoft Office from a central network location, installing the software on multiple PC's simultaneously.  Several software configurations were created for immediate deployment anywhere on the network.   Security was also used to prevent students from accessing all of this hard work!  Brian also worked on several consulting projects, ranging from Microsoft Access databases to Internet Web Sites.

Over seven years after leaving that firm to go out on his own for the second time, Brian is now servicing clients all over Northeast Ohio, supporting, expanding and improving their networks, application usage and other PC related tasks.   After leaving the training center, Brian missed the classroom so much that he had to go back! He taught for a short while at Micro Center Education & Training, then moved on to Cuyahoga Community College, teaching on a part time basis.  While at Tri-C, Brian has become certified in Microsoft Office 2000, earning MOUS Expert status, as well as CIW CI - Certified Internet Webmaster certification.  He also earned CIW CI - Certified Internet Webmaster/Instructor Certification as well as CompTIA's Network+ (CCNT).

Meanwhile, Cindy has over twenty years of experience as an office manager for a manufacturing firm. Her knowledge of office operations was a perfect addition to Brian's already successful business.
