11 Wins, 1 Loss - American League East Champions!

The Cubs finished the 1999 Season in First Place in the American League East Division, and posted the best record in the American League.  The American League met on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while the National League met on Mondays and Wednesdays.  The only team that had a better record was the Hawks in the National League West.

The Cubs scored an average of 28 runs per game, while only allowing 17 runs per game.  Every single player contributed to the success of the team this season.  We noticed improvement in everyone's game throughout the season, and saw a heightened awareness of the game of baseball in each of them.  Looking back at our first practice, if you would have said that we would finish in first place, we may have brushed the comment off!  But we worked hard each practice, and we had a lot of fun!  Each of the kids showed more and more interest as the season went on, and by the time we started winning the first few games, it was obvious that we had something going!

We're looking forward to the 2000 season.  There will be a lot of new faces next year, seeing as a lot of players are moving up to hardball or softball.  The Cubs would like to thank those players for making the 1999 season so much fun, and we wish them well in the 2000 season.

We will also be losing our Manager, Jim Metz.  Jim did an excellent job organizing, motivating and teaching the kids the basic fundamentals of baseball.  Jim is moving up to hardball with his son Dan, and Coaches Dave Cosentino and Augie DiCosimo are also moving on.  The Cubs would like to Thank Coach Jim, Coach Dave and Coach Augie!  Thanks Coach!!   Coach Brian K. Speck is going to take over as the Manager for the 2000 season, and he will need some help from a few parents to keep the Cubs on top!  You don't need to be at every single practice, or every single game.  We understand that other obligations are inevitable.  Remember that this team is for the kids.  If you can be there to support them for even just a few games, we can use you!  Drop Coach Brian an e-mail if you're interested!
