Handlebars

The handlebars on a bike are usually the "give-away" as to what type of bike it is.  Are the handlebars pretty much straight across, with only a slight bend in them?  Chances are you have a Mountain Bike, or what's known as a Cross Bike.  Mountain bikes are heavier, with big knobby tires, where a cross bike is a cross between a mountain and a road bike.  Cross bikes typically have thinner tires with a flat riding surface and lighter frames.

Are the handlebars bent downward in a loop, or "dropped?"  You have either an old-fashioned 10-speed, or a newer road bike.  Drop bars allow the rider to get down low to reduce aerodynamic drag at high speeds.  Hey... it also looks kewl!!  :)

Grips

Many different kinds of grips are available, from the old tried and true handlebar wraps to slip-on foam grips.  Personal preference is the key here!!  Try a few out, and see what you like!
