Mountain Bikes

Mountain Bikes are the most popular.  They feature heavy duty frames, large knobby tires and usually come with a straight handlebar.  They are available in a wide variety of styles and price ranges.  Prices typically start at around $300, and go up from there.  Of course, K-Mart and Wal-Mart will sell you one for $89.95, but you get what you pay for!

Hybrid Bikes

Hybrid Bikes are a cross between a Mountain Bike and a Road Bike.  They offer some of the comfort and durability of a mountain bike, with some of the performance and lightweight features of a road bike.  Pricing starts around $250 and goes up from there.

Road / Racing Bikes

Road Bikes are the ultimate bikes!  Lightweight and fast, a road bike will get you to the finish line FAST!  Some road bike frames weigh as little as 4 pounds!  You'll pay for a road bike - I've priced decent ones around $2,000!  Entry level road bikes start around $995.  Some carbon fiber road frames will cost you $2,800 alone!

Recumbent Bikes

What is a Recumbent bike?  At first glance, they look quite strange.  The rider typically sits in a sling type chair - not on a saddle type seat.  This is where the comfort comes in!  The rider is typically in a reclined position, with his/her arms in a relaxed position - not stiff on the handlebars supporting some of the body's weight.  I do not own a recumbent, nor have I ridden one (yet!), but I plan on checking a few out before I'm ready to buy another road bike.

Tandem Bikes

A Bicycle Built For Two - That's what a Tandem is!  Tandems are available in almost all styles - Road, Hybrid, Mountain and Recumbent.  Tandems offer the ultimate bike ride for couples.  Tandem riders ALWAYS tell me how much fun they are... and it keeps the relationship strong - forcing you to cooperate, communicate and work together while you take in the scenery on a beautiful summer day....

BMX Bikes

BMX Bikes are favored by most male youths.  Usually built on a 20" frame, they offer strength and durability, while providing the rider with the ability to perform stunts and tricks.  Check out the X Games or the Gravity Games - and you'll see BMX Bikes!
